2. Selling food: provincial rules
Ontario · Low-risk foods such as bread, baked goods and cookies can be made at home. You must contact your local public health unit before starting. Guide to starting a home-based food business
Alberta · Foods that do not need refrigeration can be sold from home, online, at farmers’ markets and special events, with clear labels. Low-risk home-prepared foods
British Columbia · Lower-risk home-made foods may be sold at temporary markets, with a sign saying the kitchen is not inspected. Sale of foods at temporary food markets
3. Food-safety training
Ontario · Food premises need a certified food handler on site during all operating hours. Low-risk home food is exempt per Ontario’s guide, but training still helps. Alberta encourages food-safety training. Food handler certification
4. Selling at farmers’ and makers’ markets
