Schools, colleges, universities and studying in Canada

Education · For you and for your children

For you: universities and colleges, language courses at colleges, and admission rules for credentials earned abroad. For your children: how kindergarten-to-Grade 12 (K–12) schools work in each province, their school by home address, and Islamic schools. All from official sources, so you can choose what suits your family.

So how do you know which school your child will attend?

Public schools are assigned by home address: each school has a boundary (catchment or attendance area). If you want a particular school, you need to live inside its boundary.

  1. Open your city below, then the public board’s tool (and the Catholic board’s where one exists).
  2. Enter the address you are considering — before you sign a lease.
  3. Check the designated school for each level — elementary, middle and secondary — and French programs if needed.
  4. Call the board or school to confirm places, transport and registration dates.

Note: The nearest school is not always yours, and a full school may redirect new students elsewhere even inside its boundary.
