Engineering (all disciplines) licensing in New BrunswickChecked roadmap

Where you are, what is left and what you can do in parallel: from official sources.

Full roadmap checked against official sources

We checked this roadmap’s official sources between October 7, 2026 and October 9, 2026.

Where do you live now?

Why we ask: Some support programmes require you to be in Canada, and some credential options (such as WES Gateway) are for residents of Canada or the US.

Where did you study?

Why we ask: Country of study, not citizenship. It matters for programmes such as WES Gateway.

Do you have a bachelor’s degree in engineering?

Why we ask: If your degree is not in engineering, the alternative is the Limited Licence or another occupation.

0 of 1 tracked items, self-reported. This is not a likelihood of licensure.

Categories and specialties in this roadmap

All engineering disciplines follow the same route. The discipline matters only for the self-assessment table and exams.

  • Member-in-Training (EIT): covered
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.): covered
  • CEAB graduate: not covered · Not covered: CEAB graduates apply directly as members-in-training.
  • Limited Licence (LEL): not covered · Listed as an alternative only: for people without the education or experience for full registration, within a defined scope.
  • Canadian labour mobility: not covered · Not covered: for people already registered in another province.

Member-in-training and P.Eng. registration require New Brunswick residence. You may start the academic assessment from abroad, but you must be an NB resident to receive the result.

Every applicant submits documentation confirming legal eligibility to work in Canada: a Canadian passport or birth certificate, a PR card or COPR, or a valid work or study permit.

Since May 31, 2026, the fair registration regulation requires APEGNB to answer within 14 days (complete, or what is missing) and to issue a written decision within 90 days after the application is complete.

Until you are licensed, do not use the word “engineer” anywhere: resume, LinkedIn, email signature or business card.

A free Government of Canada tool that shows whether your occupation is regulated in your province and who regulates it.

Support and funding (loans you repay)

  • Foreign credential recognition loans (Government of Canada)

A loan you repay, not a grant. Up to $30,000 for exam fees, training and tuition, through organisations such as Windmill (Canada-wide), Achēv (Ontario), ISANS (Atlantic), SEED (Manitoba), ISSofBC and PICS (BC). Terms and eligibility depend on your status; the page has a search tool for providers near you.
