Engineering (all disciplines) licensing in OntarioChecked roadmap

Where you are, what is left and what you can do in parallel: from official sources.

Full roadmap checked against official sources

We checked this roadmap’s official sources between October 7, 2026 and October 9, 2026.

Where do you live now?

Why we ask: Some support programmes require you to be in Canada, and some credential options (such as WES Gateway) are for residents of Canada or the US.

Where did you study?

Why we ask: Country of study, not citizenship. It matters for programmes such as WES Gateway.

Is your engineering program accredited by CEAB?

Why we ask: CEAB graduates write no technical exams. Others write four (or two with good performance).

0 of 1 tracked items, self-reported. This is not a likelihood of licensure.

Categories and specialties in this roadmap

All engineering disciplines follow the same PEO licensing route. The discipline matters only when choosing technical exams.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.): covered
  • Engineering Intern (EIT): not covered · Not currently available to new applicants: PEO’s EIT program is closed to new applicants.
  • Limited Licence (LEL / LET): not covered · Listed as an alternative only: for people without an engineering bachelor’s degree who have at least 8 years of experience, 6 of them in the scope of work.
  • Temporary licence: not covered · Not covered: issued per project and discipline for up to 12 months.
  • Canadian P.Eng. mobility: not covered · Not covered: for engineers already licensed by another Canadian regulator.

PEO does not require Canadian experience, citizenship or permanent residence, or a specific language test.

A WES evaluation does not exempt you from technical exams: every international graduate counts as non-CEAB.

  • Foreign credential recognition loans (Government of Canada)

A loan you repay, not a grant. Up to $30,000 for exam fees, training and tuition, through organisations such as Windmill (Canada-wide), Achēv (Ontario), ISANS (Atlantic), SEED (Manitoba), ISSofBC and PICS (BC). Terms and eligibility depend on your status; the page has a search tool for providers near you.
