Why you see this A science, computer science or Canadian technology bachelor’s does not qualify for assessment or registration, and a limited licence is not available in PEI.
Certified technicians and technologists may do engineering work where a professional engineer takes responsibility. Their regulator in PEI is Island Technology Professionals.
Other provinces have limited licences; see their roadmaps on this site.
How you know it is done When you have chosen a suitable alternative.
Why you see this The programme is for forcibly displaced people who studied in a programme country, live in Canada or the US and cannot obtain official records.
You need copies of your diploma or transcript.
Access is through a partner organisation that confirms your eligibility. Ask your local settlement agency.
Ask Engineers PEI in writing whether it accepts a Gateway report for licensing, and which report type.

How you know it is done When the partner organisation confirms eligibility and Engineers PEI confirms in writing that it accepts the report.
Why you see this It is required for all education outside Canada, even programs exempt from academic assessment.
Comes after:
On WES: Canada, Standard Application, add “Engineers Prince Edward Island (EPEI)” as recipient, and choose ICAP Course-by-Course.
If you have an earlier WES report (such as an immigration ECA), you must upgrade it to ICAP Course-by-Course.
If you studied in Sudan: WES asks for an official English transcript sent by the university and a copy of the degree certificate in English uploaded to your account. Write your WES reference on every document and do not send originals.

Fee: CAD 284 plus tax · ICAP Course-by-Course report (plus delivery and 13% HST) · WES
How you know it is done When WES confirms your order and all documents are received.
If you cannot get official documents, the Registrar may approve alternative arrangements in extenuating circumstances: email info@EngineersPEI.com.
Published processing time: WES: about two weeks for verification and two for evaluation (up to four if complex). (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When Engineers PEI has received the report.
Why you see this Program content, not the credential’s name, decides. Accredited programs (Washington Accord, CTI France or a recognition agreement) are exempt from assessment.
Comes after:
“Program acceptable”: five or fewer exams of deficiency; confirmatory exams are assigned.
“Not acceptable with deficiencies”: six or more exams; a technical exam program is assigned.
If you disagree, provide more information and request a re-assessment. Its result is final.
After the result you have two years to finish what is outstanding, or the file closes (you may ask for an extension before then).
When you receive the result, record it here.
How you know it is done When you receive a written result.
Why you see this They must be completed within two years of assignment.
Comes after:
Choose three exams (two from Group A and one from Group B in your discipline), or the NCEES FE exam instead. Do not register with NCEES before Engineers PEI’s decision. The FE fee for PEI is not clear, so ask before paying.
Postgraduate waiver: an engineering master’s or PhD with at least three graduate courses applying engineering theory or design; it need not be the same discipline.
Experience essay waiver: with about ten years of experience related to your degree, an essay of ten or more pages; the committee may waive or reduce the exams. Using AI or others to write it is prohibited.
If you do not attempt any exam within one year of the date of your letter, your application is withdrawn.
Exams are online with a proctor, twice a year. Apply by January 30 (spring/summer) or August 1 (fall). The pass mark is 50%; a second failure leads to a program review.
Fee: CAD 525 · Per technical or confirmatory exam · Engineers PEI
Published processing time: Engineers PEI: results by email 60–90 days after the exam. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When Engineers PEI confirms the academic requirement is met.
Why you see this For six or more exams of deficiency.
Comes after:
Register with the exam application form and payment before the deadline (January 30 or August 1). You are not registered until the form reaches the office.
If you do not attempt any exam within one year of the date of your letter, your application is withdrawn.
A failed exam must be rewritten before you continue; a second failure leads to a program review.
With an average of 65% or more on two exams at the first sitting and no mark below 60%, you may qualify for a good-performance review.
Why you see this All EITs must register for the CBA. Experience abroad counts if you show it matches the Canadian work context.
Comes after:
Create an account at competencyassessment.ca with your EIT number. One example for each of the 34 competencies, including the eight Canadian ones.
At least four validators, two of them P.Eng. and one your direct supervisor in your discipline. Validators of the Canadian competencies must be P.Eng.; if that is not possible, they should be direct supervisors competent in the same area who understand the competency requirements. Together they must cover at least four years.
Interim submission at about one year: at least three competencies, one from Category 1; email info@engineerspei.com because it is not automatic. International graduates with more than four years can submit at any time.
Duration: the Manual says four years, while the by-laws in force say five for graduates of non-accredited programs. Ask Engineers PEI about your case.
Under the by-laws, at least three years of the experience must come after your academic requirements completion date. A master’s or PhD in a related field may count for up to one year, and pre-graduation work (after two years of an accredited program) for up to one year.
If a competency does not pass, extra assessors review it automatically, and you may resubmit with a better example.
How you know it is done When every competency is validated and meets the minimum rating.
Why you see this The by-laws require at least one year of engineering experience before the NPPE. The NPPE package calls it beneficial for that year to follow graduation, and the NPPE page calls it beneficial too. You must pass before applying for P.Eng.
Comes after:
Complete Engineers PEI’s NPPE application form and email it before the deadline; pay by cash, cheque or PayPal.
The exam is online, 2.5 hours, 110 questions. You need a phone or tablet as a second camera and government photo ID with signature.
Before the registration deadline you can cancel or defer; after it the fee is non-refundable.
Why you see this Once all CBA validations are complete and you have passed the NPPE.
Comes after:
Complete the form: your work history with the supervising engineer’s name, three references (preferably P.Eng., one a member of Engineers PEI), and the name for your stamp. CBA validators count as references.
Attach government photo ID. Proof of graduation is already on file.
Fee: CAD 440 · Registration 50 + dues 360 + stamp 30 (450 by PayPal) · Engineers PEI
How you know it is done When you have filed the complete application.
All engineering disciplines follow the same route. The discipline matters only for exams.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT): covered
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.): covered
CEAB graduate: not covered · Not covered: exempt from academic assessment.
Licence to Practise (LTP): not covered · Not covered: for non-residents already licensed elsewhere.
Residence in PEI matters: the EIT application can only be approved once you live there, though you can apply before moving.
In PEI you need at least EIT enrolment to practise engineering. A limited licence is not available here.
No rule differs by immigration status; the forms only record citizenship.
APEGA performs the academic assessment for Engineers PEI.
