May apply to you
We do not recommend these until you answer the questions.
Why you see this The usual order: Gateway, Document Evaluation, language, Part I, then the provisional register, the jurisprudence exam, practical training, and the DCPP if required.
In Gateway, choose ACP as your regulator and complete the engagement process.
Why you see this The mandatory first step for every international pharmacy graduate (except Quebec). PEBC needs the Gateway national ID before Document Evaluation.
Comes after:
Enrol online and pay. You do not need to be in Canada.
Keep your national ID: you write it in the top right corner of the PEBC application. The profile stays active up to 10 years.
A pharmacy graduate from outside Canada counts as an IPG “regardless of citizenship”.
Gateway says that when you apply to the provincial regulator you need appropriate work authorization from IRCC, and pharmacy practical training is work.
Gateway purchases are not refundable; exceptions carry a $50 administration fee.
Why you see this PEBC verifies your degree, licence and identity. This is the assessment for pharmacists, not WES.
Comes after:
Open a PEBC Portal account with your name exactly as on your ID, print the paper application with a photo from the last year, have it witnessed, and send it by tracked mail.
A certified copy of your passport or birth certificate. A PR card is not accepted as primary ID. If you have no primary ID or your names differ, there is a statutory declaration with two IDs.
Your university sends the transcript directly to PEBC (by courier or official email to desubmit@pebc.ca), issued within a month of arrival. If your university is not yet PEBC-approved, send the syllabus.
Any document not in English or French: an original certified translation, stamped and signed on every page.
If not all documents arrive within two years of payment, the file closes without refund.
Published processing time: PEBC tells you what is missing within six weeks; the evaluation takes up to eight weeks once the file is complete. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When you receive the successful results letter and the exam application appears in your Portal.
Why you see this PEBC needs an original declaration instead of a licensing statement. Some provinces (such as Saskatchewan) require prior licensure for their programs, so check your province’s steps.
Comes after:
An original declaration: “I have never been licensed anywhere in the world.”
How you know it is done When the declaration reaches PEBC.
Why you see this PEBC allows it for people completing their program outside Canada and the US.
All documents at least eight weeks before the exam deadline, a provisional transcript from the university, and the final transcript showing the degree at least five days before the exam.
How you know it is done When the final transcript reaches PEBC.
Why you see this PEBC needs transcripts and licensing statements directly from the institutions. We found no published rule for institutions that cannot respond.
Write to PEBC, explain your situation and ask in writing which route is accepted. Do not rely on anyone offering substitute documents.
How you know it is done When you have a written answer.
Why you see this NAPRA’s model, followed by most regulators: all four parts in one sitting, and the overall score is not considered.
IELTS Academic: reading 7, listening 7, speaking 7, writing 6.5. OET: B, B, B and C+ for writing.
Results are valid two years from the test date and go to Gateway as it instructs (IELTS through the online portal, OET by email to gatewayinfo@napra.ca).
ACP accepts only IELTS Academic or OET, in one sitting, with results within two years when you apply to the provisional register. French tests are not accepted.
An English-medium pharmacy degree from outside Canada and the US does not exempt you. The only exemption is a three-year Canadian program in English with three consecutive English courses.
How you know it is done When ACP accepts your language evidence.
Why you see this Gateway shares the result with the regulator.
Scores: IELTS Academic 7/7/7 with 6.5 writing, OET B/B/B with C+ writing, in one sitting. Results are valid two years.
Why you see this From January 2027, after Document Evaluation you go straight to Part I. The evaluation is valid five years: if you do not pass Part I in that time, you need a re-evaluation.
Comes after:
Apply in the PEBC Portal by noon ET on the deadline and choose English or French. Book a Prometric centre (in Canada and abroad) or a remote exam.
2027 sittings: February (deadline November 19, 2026), May (February 18, 2027), July (May 13, 2027), November (August 5, 2027).
Four and a half hours on computer. Results are pass/fail only, within six weeks. Both parts must be passed within three years of each other.
Exam eligibility depends on sanctions compliance. If you will test outside Canada, ask PEBC about your country before paying.
Why you see this After passing it you are a “PEBC Certified Pharmacist”. Certification alone does not give the right to practise.
Comes after:
Choose six sites (or at least three); they cannot be changed after you submit. For French, register for the Montreal centre; not every sitting includes Montreal, so check that sitting’s site list before applying.
Eleven stations of seven minutes each, about six and a half hours at the centre. 2027 dates: February 21, May 30, November 6.
Why you see this After three failures, a fourth and final attempt is by petition and needs Board-specified remediation.
Comes after:
A feedback report arrives about eight weeks after results. Remediation must start after the results letter and finish within a year of the fourth attempt, with proof at PEBC three weeks before the exam.
Hand re-scoring only checks data entry, requested within 75 days. Exam content and attempt limits cannot be appealed.
Why you see this The list: a Canadian birth certificate, passport or citizenship card, PR, or a work or study permit that does not limit you from working in multiple pharmacies.
ACP does not say whether a visitor can register. A graduate on a study permit must show permission to work (such as a PGWP application confirmation). Ask ACP.
How you know it is done When you have a document from the list.
Why you see this Mandatory unless you passed both Parts on the first attempt. It can also be your entry key to the provisional register if you have not yet passed either Part.
Comes after:
Fill in the “First Steps” form. Enrolment needs a successful PEBC Document Evaluation and English at the university’s standard.
From six months to three years, most about ten months. Mandatory in-person parts in Edmonton at your own cost. Not eligible for Alberta Student Aid.
Why you see this You need Gateway with ACP designated, language within two years, and one of: a Part I or Part II pass (within three years) or DCPP completion.
Comes after:
Apply from Gateway, then create a myACP account, start the provisional pharmacist application and upload every document as PDF.
Documents: a notarized ID form with a photo from the last 12 months, notarized copies of primary and secondary ID, a statutory declaration within six months, an enhanced police check through Sterling (within six months), and your PEBC or DCPP result.
If approved, pay within 30 days; the provisional permit usually lasts two years. If you do not meet clinical requirements in that time, the registrar removes you (an extension is possible for extenuating circumstances).
If your application is refused or conditions are imposed: you may request a review by an ACP Council panel within 30 days of receiving the decision ($742.35 with GST).
Fee: CAD 670 plus tax · Initial provisional registration (includes the first JE attempt) · ACP
Published processing time: Up to 15 business days. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When ACP issues your provisional practice permit.
Why you see this You must be on the provisional register to book it, and you must pass it before practical training.
Comes after:
Online proctored, 100 questions in two hours, closed book, available any time. Results within three hours. Unavailable November 2–22, 2026.
After two failures a retake application is required. Three attempts, and the registrar may approve a fourth and final one. If you fail the fourth and final attempt, you are no longer eligible for the pharmacist register. Wait at least five days between attempts. The result is valid two years.
Fee: CAD 187 plus tax · Re-challenge (the first attempt is included in registration) · ACP
Why you see this On the provisional register, after the JLM and JE. You find the pharmacy and preceptor yourself: ACP has no list.
Comes after:
Online courses (professionalism, equity and cultural safety, safer spaces) do not count toward hours.
Two different sites and preceptors, in person 20–40 hours a week. The preceptor must not be a relative. Changing preceptor or site midway restarts that experience.
Submit the enrolment form in myACP with the pharmacy and preceptor. Approval usually within 15 business days.
How you know it is done When ACP approves both experiences.
Why you see this After the JLM, JE, practical training, both Parts (within three years), the DCPP if required, and insurance.
Comes after:
Professional liability insurance in your name, at least $2 million. You do not need it while on the provisional register.
A professional declaration, an enhanced police check within six months, PEBC certification, the JLM certificate and the DCPP if required. The JE must be within two years before the application.
Pay within 30 days of approval. The permit runs to June 30; renew between April 1 and May 31.
Fee: CAD 1005 plus tax · Pharmacist practice permit · ACP
Fee: CAD 553 plus tax · Pro-rated permit (joining January 1 – June 30) · ACP
Published processing time: Up to 15 business days. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
