May apply to you
We do not recommend these until you answer the questions.
Why you see this The order: the equivalence application, the CAP decision, bridging (usually the QeP) and the law course, the student register, a 600-hour internship, French, and the permit.
If you aim for Université de Montréal: a complete OPQ file by August 1, and the university application by November 1.
Start French from the beginning: the university requires it for admission to the QeP.
Why you see this OPQ’s page still names the old Evaluating Exam, which PEBC stopped after October 2026. How CAP treats the new pathway is not clear.
Check the PEBC and internship registration sections of OPQ’s page. If they still name the Evaluating Exam, write to admission@opq.org and ask whether Parts I and II without it count, and whether they replace the QeP before the internship.
How you know it is done When uploaded or answered.
Why you see this The CAP committee assesses your degree, training and experience. You do not need a credential evaluation (such as WES) before filing; CAP tells you if it needs a comparative evaluation.
Comes after:
Open your file in «Mon dossier OPQ», choose «Devenir pharmacien au Québec», then «Demande d’équivalence», and pay once by credit card.
Upload: your transcript with course descriptions and credits, an official copy of each diploma, your internship certificate, proof of the right to practise, and a good-conduct certificate from your order. Also, if you have them: continuing education and experience.
Any document not in French or English needs translation. OPQ’s current pages do not list ID documents for this application: check the online form.
Published processing time: CAP analysis usually takes one to three months; the decision comes by email within 30 days. Current CAP meeting dates are not published: check the «Étude de votre demande» tab. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When you receive CAP’s written decision.
Why you see this It sets the courses or training required and the time allowed. The decision can expire: the dated 2020 document says 24 months, so check the date on yours.
Comes after:
When you receive the decision, record it here.
How you know it is done When you know the decision.
Why you see this OPQ allows a review request if CAP’s decision seems unjustified to you, including when equivalence is recognized only in part.
Comes after:
If you decide to ask for a review: send the review request form by email within 30 days of receiving the decision. If you accept the decision, go on to bridging.
How you know it is done When you decide to ask for a review or to go ahead with the decision.
Why you see this Even when refusing, CAP must tell you in writing which studies or training would give you equivalence.
Comes after:
Send the review request form by email within 30 days of receiving the decision. OPQ’s dated 2020 document gives the review committee 60 days; confirm the current time with OPQ.
No fee is stated: ask dajso@opq.org before sending.
How you know it is done When you receive the review decision.
Why you see this The program usually lasts 16 months and 64 credits; what you need ranges from 3 to 81.5 credits depending on your decision.
Comes after:
Applications run August 1 to November 1, 2026 for autumn 2027. You need the CAP decision, French (for example C1 in oral and written comprehension; the university page lists other routes), the Casper test in French by November 5, 2026, and an interview.
The Casper fee shows only when you book on Acuity Insights. Tuition is per credit by status, plus other fees.
From the start: immunizations, a CPR course, OPQ student registration, and a background check for placements. Some placements are outside Montreal and some ban religious symbols: ask qep-info@pharm.umontreal.ca before accepting if this affects you.
Why you see this For all international graduates before the internship. It is separate from the QeP and can be taken as a free student.
Comes after:
Three credits, on campus in Montreal or online, offered autumn 2026 and winter 2027 (see the course page for later terms). Fees are per credit by status. Send your transcript to OPQ.
How you know it is done When OPQ has your passing transcript.
Why you see this Required before any internship, and from the start of studies in Quebec.
Comes after:
In your file choose «Inscription au registre des étudiants». The form asks for a recent photo, a birth certificate (translated if born outside Quebec), and photo ID from an official Canadian body.
Fee: CAD 352.44 · Student register for the whole program (taxes included; stated for Quebec students, confirm in the form) · OPQ
Published processing time: Up to 7 working days, usually within 72 hours. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When OPQ confirms your registration.
Why you see this After the QeP (or the PEBC exams) and PHM 6510. CAP may reduce the hours (for example 300 or 500).
Comes after:
Find a site and preceptor: on the roll at least five years and practising with the public, and not family. Upload pages 30–32 of the internship guide signed, and do not start before OPQ’s email authorization.
At the end: the preceptor gives you the evaluation within 30 days, and you upload it with your report (five care plans). The internship may be paid at the preceptor’s discretion; insurance is covered.
If you are not a citizen or PR: OPQ says nothing about work authorization for the internship. Check with IRCC (canada.ca) before starting. Also ask the site whether it requires a background check.
How you know it is done When CAP recognizes your internship success.
Why you see this Required by law when you apply for the permit. No other exam is accepted.
Register on the OQLF exam portal after OPQ validates your form. The exam is at OQLF offices in Montreal (and twice a year in Quebec City), about three and a half hours, a professional case study.
Results within 10 working days. If you fail, wait three months and retake as often as needed. Email the certificate to OPQ.
Why you see this OPQ emails an invitation once the internship is approved. If French is not yet proven, a temporary permit may be issued.
Comes after:
The online form includes the roll, dues and FARPOPQ insurance. Tell OPQ about any judicial or disciplinary decision.
The 2026–27 first-registration fees are not published (OPQ’s table is still 2025–26): the form calculates them by month and insurance category.
A temporary permit lasts a year and can be renewed up to three times with OQLF authorization; to renew it you must sit the OQLF exam at least once within 12 months of issue or renewal, and its years must be continuous. If you did the QeP in Quebec, ask admission@opq.org whether you qualify, and book the OQLF exam early.
Fee: CAD 1387 plus tax · Annual dues 2026–27 (plus GST and QST; insurance extra) · OPQ
Published processing time: Seven days to issue the permit once complete. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When OPQ issues the permit and enters you on the roll.
Temporary permit (until French is proven): covered
Student register: covered
Graduates from France: not covered · Not covered: they use the France–Québec arrangement.
Licensed in another province: not covered · Not covered: the Canadian mobility route.
Quebec has its own equivalence committee (CAP). Gateway and the PEBC exams are optional here, but their results can reduce the required courses.
The QeP is taught in French and is limited to 30 places.
If you face admission difficulties: a complaint to the Commissaire à l’admission aux professions is free.
