Why you see this Without the note you are not eligible for the MCC exams and the common standard for a full licence is not met. We found no published national alternative.
Check your school’s listing again: some schools are acceptable only for certain periods.
Write to the MCC and CPSM and explain your situation before paying any fee.
How you know it is done When you have a written answer.
Why you see this All MCC services (verification, exams, registration application) run through this account.

Why you see this The MCC sends your degree to ECFMG, which asks your university directly. You must submit and pay this before applying for the MCCQE.
Comes after:
From your account, submit the verification request for your degree and pay. The MCC reviews the documents and tells you if anything needs fixing.
Also verify the credentials your route needs: internship, postgraduate training and specialist certificate. Each credential has its own fee.
If ECFMG verified your documents before (for example EPIC or USMLE), still submit and pay, then send your number by message so the earlier verification may be reused.
If you need an immigration Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), the MCC is the designated body for physicians. It is for immigration only and does not let you practise.

Why you see this The ball is with your university. Meanwhile you can work on language and exams.
Comes after:
ECFMG usually sends the documents to the university within 5 days and usually updates your status within 5 to 10 days of receiving the verification certificate.
If your request is more than two years old, contact the MCC: a new request at the current fee may be needed.
Published processing time: No time is guaranteed. University replies can take three months or longer. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When your degree status reads “verification returned – passed”.
Why you see this The common standard lets a regulator accept evidence other than a test. But the MCC eBook says a test is generally still required if you studied in a country whose first language is not English, even when teaching was in English.
Evidence that may be accepted: medical education or training in English (its weight fades over time), medical exams passed in English, or documented practice in English.
CPSM exempts medical education in English in a country on its list (Sudan is not named, and the list is not exhaustive), or decides case by case: more than half of your education or patient care in English, your program listed as English in WDOMS, or a two-year fellowship in an English-first country.
If CPSM does not accept it, you will need a language test.
How you know it is done When you know in writing whether your evidence is accepted or a test is needed.
Why you see this These are the tests and scores in the regulators’ common standard. Your province’s rules follow.
OET Medicine is preferred: grade B in each component.
Or IELTS Academic: 7.0 in each of the four components. Or CELPIP General: 9 in each component.
The result must be from within 24 months before you apply for registration. The regulator may waive this if you have worked or trained in English since the test.
CPSM: IELTS General or Academic (7.0 in each part), not necessarily in one sitting. OET and CELPIP must be in the same sitting. All within 24 months at the time of application.
The result stays valid until the final registration decision while your file is active.
How you know it is done When you have a result with the required scores from the last 24 months.
Why you see this It is required for residency in Canada and for the LMCC you need for a full licence, and most PRA programs use it.
Comes after:
From your account: Examinations, then “Apply for an exam”. Once accepted you have 12 months to book and sit it (extendable once).
Booking is at Prometric centres only, first come first served, up to five months ahead. Remote proctoring is paused from the August 2026 session.
The exam is one day: 230 multiple-choice questions in two sections.
2027 sessions: Jan 19–Feb 11, Apr 27–Jun 1, Aug 10–Sep 7 and Oct 5–26.
You have four attempts only, with a full one-year wait after the third result. The pass score is 439 (scale 300–600).
If something goes wrong on exam day, report it within 7 days and request reconsideration within 15 days of the result. The only possible outcome is No Standing (not counted as an attempt), never a pass.
Published processing time: Up to four weeks for the application. Results four weeks after the last day of the session (five for April). (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When a pass result appears in your account.
Why you see this CaRMS’s general rule: citizen or permanent resident at the time of application, and pending applications are not accepted. Provinces differ; details follow.
There are province-specific exceptions. Read CaRMS’s citizenship summary for your province before paying.
Per CaRMS’s 2026 table, protected persons are not eligible in Manitoba, and the province requires proof of eligibility to work in Canada.
The 2027 provincial criteria were not yet posted when we read the page.
How you know it is done When you know whether you are eligible for this year’s match.
Why you see this An international graduate without completed postgraduate training enters residency through the match.
Comes after:
The return of service for Manitoba IMG residency positions is not stated on the pages we read.
Share your MCCQE and NAC results with CaRMS before file review (usually late November).
You need a Medical Identification Number for Canada (MINC). The MCC issues it, with written consent, to applicants to its exams.
In CaRMS Online: register and pay, prove citizenship (share your MCC identity validity period or upload a document), upload your transcript and MSPR, request references, apply to programs, attend virtual interviews, then submit your rank order list.
Read the provincial criteria and pay attention to return-of-service requirements.
2027 dates: citizenship proof through the MCC by October 16, 2026; applications by November 26, 2026 at noon ET; match day March 2, 2027. Your degree must be completed by July 1 of the match year.
The fees page shows two tables. Confirm the fee before paying.
Fee: CAD 301.6 plus tax · Match participation fee (includes four programs) · CaRMS
Fee: CAD 66.26 plus tax · Each additional program · CaRMS

Apply through the Royal College eBooking platform: CV, degree, internship documents, a signed letter from the program director with training dates and rotations, and a CanMEDS competence attestation.
The degree, internship and training documents are verified through physiciansapply.
Deadline: April 30 of the year before a spring exam, or August 31 of the year before a fall exam.
No practice time is needed for exam eligibility. Fees are non-refundable; we could not read the amount on the Royal College site.
Published processing time: Assessing a complete application can take three to six months. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When you receive the ruling letter.
Why you see this PRA-FP is a three-month assessment for family physicians. CPSM checks eligibility and refers you to the University; a referral does not guarantee admission.
Comes after:
CPSM: two years of accredited family medicine training, or one year plus three years of family practice in the preceding five years. The training must be enough to practise where you trained. CPSM may accept rotations done during an internship.
Rotations: 8 weeks each of medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics, and 4 weeks of surgery, within five years of each other, in person and full time. Practice must be independent and 70% in person; residency does not count as practice.
University: at least three years of independent practice within the five years before the deadline, and a pass in the NAC or “MCCQE2”. Preference to Manitoba residents.
The MCC eBook names the old MCCQE Part II (2021 or before) for other programs; ask the University whether that is what it means.
In Manitoba, the MLPIMG asks for MCCQE1, while PRA-FP asks only for the NAC or MCCQE2. So the MCCQE is not required for PRA-FP.
The TDM is not named on the Manitoba pages we read. Ask the University before paying for it.
If you are a citizen, PR or protected person living in Manitoba, Manitoba Careers for Internationally Educated Professionals may cover up to $23,000 of assessment and training costs. Costs paid before the program approves you are not reimbursed, including application fees to start registration.
How you know it is done When you know whether you meet the requirements.
Why you see this A three-member Executive Committee panel hears the appeal; there is a further right of appeal to the court.
Comes after:
Send a written notice of appeal to the Registrar within 30 days of receiving the decision, then a written submission within 30 days of receiving the record.
The fee is refunded if the appeal succeeds.
Fee: CAD 2000 · Appeal of a denial of registration · CPSM
How you know it is done When you file the appeal or decide not to.
Why you see this For citizens or PRs who need more training. Afterwards you apply for provisional (family) registration.
Comes after:
Requirements: a NAC pass within the last five years, an MCCQE pass, one year of training with at least a month each of medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, general surgery and emergency, and 12 consecutive months of independent practice within the last five years.
The 2027 deadline was September 8, 2026 (closed). The University says applications reopen in summer 2027.
If you accept sponsorship: a return of service in Manitoba (currently four years), and you withdraw from CaRMS before the rank deadline. Failing two rotations ends the program.
Why you see this Royal College eligibility through PER alone does not exempt you: you need a practice-ready assessment, unless you passed the certification exam and meet extra conditions.
Comes after:
You must meet the provisional (specialty) requirements before screening. The assessment is not available in every specialty, and we could not read the list.
Find a vacancy in your specialty on the Health Careers Manitoba job board and register there. You cannot apply directly: a screening panel selects. Preference goes to Manitoba residents and PRs.
CPSM advises not to submit the AMR before confirming the first steps, because applications expire after six months.
If you are a citizen, PR or protected person living in Manitoba, Manitoba Careers for Internationally Educated Professionals may cover up to $23,000 of assessment costs. Costs paid before the program approves you are not reimbursed.
Why you see this The Royal College requirement for certification through PER.
Comes after:
Two full-time years in one location, with at least half your practice in the specialty, then an assessment with multisource feedback. The provisional licence for this practice comes from CPSM.
How you know it is done When you receive Royal College certification.
Why you see this CPSM issues a certificate of registration and practice that lets you begin the PRA-FP, with a job offer in an area the Minister approved.
Comes after:
Documents: ID and full legal name, a photo, good standing from every jurisdiction where you were licensed, a criminal record check plus child and adult abuse registry checks, and the required disclosures (such as any gap of two months or more).
CPSM accepts translations of its own documents from any provider. For MCC verification, only the three MCC-listed providers.
A mandatory two-week orientation (some days in person). The same University page also says every program starts with four weeks, so ask.
Three 4-week blocks at different sites in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba, observed by MCC-trained assessors. Housing, salary and travel between sites are provided.
A poor evaluation in any block means immediate release from the program.
Why you see this You practise in a Minister-approved area under graduated supervision, for up to five years.
Comes after:
A ministerial certificate for the area, an arrangement with an approved supervisor, a mentor, liability coverage (CMPA or insurance of at least $10 million) and ID. Plus a virtual group orientation.
Supervision: monthly reports for the first three months, then at 9, 18 and 24 months. Plus the University’s one-year mentorship.
If your supervisor leaves and no replacement is found within 30 days, registration is cancelled.
Why you see this The final report judges whether you are at the level of a final-year resident.
Comes after:
Pre-assessment screening (interview, OSCE or written test), then at least three months in University hospital departments.
If successful: provisional (Specialty Practice Limited) registration for up to five years, rural work under your return-of-service agreement, and a year of mentorship.
Why you see this It is part of the common standard for a full licence.
Comes after:
Requirements: an acceptable school, an MCCQE pass, a verified degree and nothing owing to the MCC.
If you applied for the MCCQE after January 26, 2026, it is issued automatically at no cost. If earlier, apply under Other Service Requests and pay $50.
It is now a digital number; paper certificates are not issued automatically.
How you know it is done When an LMCC number is issued.
Why you see this Without reaching full registration in time, provisional registration is cancelled.
Comes after:
CCFP or Royal College certification. Or the MPAP after two continuous years of provisional practice in Manitoba, having attempted the certification exam at least once.
Apply for the MPAP at least 30 months before your provisional registration ends. If unsuccessful, registration is cancelled.
Renew your certificate of practice before November 1 each year. Late: $200 in the first 30 days, then $50 a day.
Fee: CAD 600 · MPAP documentation (CPSM; the assessment fee is set by the University) · CPSM
Fee: CAD 2480 · Certificate of practice: $2,480 a year or $411 a month (2025/2026 schedule, until October 31, 2026) · CPSM
Fee: CAD 2530 · Certificate of practice from November 1, 2026: $2,530 a year or $420 a month · CPSM
