Why you see this Without the note you are not eligible for the MCC exams and the common standard for a full licence is not met. We found no published national alternative.
Check your school’s listing again: some schools are acceptable only for certain periods.
Write to the MCC and CPSS and explain your situation before paying any fee.
How you know it is done When you have a written answer.
Why you see this All MCC services (verification, exams, registration application) run through this account.
Comes after:
Create the account and pay the one-time set-up fee.
Have an acceptable official certify a copy of your passport with you present in person. From the passport, only the pages with name, photo, signature, date of birth and expiry.
Upload a colour JPG photo from the last six months and your signature in blue or black pen on plain white paper.
One PDF or JPG file per document, under 10 MB and without a password. Do not mail originals.
If you plan to apply to the 2027 residency match and want to prove citizenship or status through the MCC: submit an MCCQE application and the required documents by October 16, 2026.

How you know it is done When an Identity Expiry Date appears under Documents in your account.
Why you see this The MCC sends your degree to ECFMG, which asks your university directly. You must submit and pay this before applying for the MCCQE.
Comes after:
From your account, submit the verification request for your degree and pay. The MCC reviews the documents and tells you if anything needs fixing.
Also verify the credentials your route needs: internship, postgraduate training and specialist certificate. Each credential has its own fee.
If ECFMG verified your documents before (for example EPIC or USMLE), still submit and pay, then send your number by message so the earlier verification may be reused.
If you need an immigration Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), the MCC is the designated body for physicians. It is for immigration only and does not let you practise.

Why you see this The ball is with your university. Meanwhile you can work on language and exams.
Comes after:
ECFMG usually sends the documents to the university within 5 days and usually updates your status within 5 to 10 days of receiving the verification certificate.
If your request is more than two years old, contact the MCC: a new request at the current fee may be needed.
Published processing time: No time is guaranteed. University replies can take three months or longer. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When your degree status reads “verification returned – passed”.
Why you see this The common standard lets a regulator accept evidence other than a test. But the MCC eBook says a test is generally still required if you studied in a country whose first language is not English, even when teaching was in English.
Evidence that may be accepted: medical education or training in English (its weight fades over time), medical exams passed in English, or documented practice in English.
CPSS accepts medical education in English within the last five years in Canada, the US or an English-first country. Case by case, it considers medical training in English “as verified by the institution” within five years, a one-year fellowship in English, or an expired test plus supervisor-verified work in English in the last two years.
If CPSS does not accept it, you will need a language test.
How you know it is done When you know in writing whether your evidence is accepted or a test is needed.
Why you see this These are the tests and scores in the regulators’ common standard. Your province’s rules follow.
OET Medicine is preferred: grade B in each component.
Or IELTS Academic: 7.0 in each of the four components. Or CELPIP General: 9 in each component.
The result must be from within 24 months before you apply for registration. The regulator may waive this if you have worked or trained in English since the test.
CPSS: IELTS Academic and CELPIP without sub-test retakes. OET accepts sub-tests taken within the same 24-month period.
If you have OET or CELPIP: the AMR has no field for them. Answer NO to the IELTS question, then email the result to cpssreg@cps.sk.ca and share it for verification.
How you know it is done When you have a result with the required scores from the last 24 months.
Why you see this It is required for residency in Canada and for the LMCC you need for a full licence, and most PRA programs use it.
Comes after:
From your account: Examinations, then “Apply for an exam”. Once accepted you have 12 months to book and sit it (extendable once).
Booking is at Prometric centres only, first come first served, up to five months ahead. Remote proctoring is paused from the August 2026 session.
The exam is one day: 230 multiple-choice questions in two sections.
2027 sessions: Jan 19–Feb 11, Apr 27–Jun 1, Aug 10–Sep 7 and Oct 5–26.
You have four attempts only, with a full one-year wait after the third result. The pass score is 439 (scale 300–600).
If something goes wrong on exam day, report it within 7 days and request reconsideration within 15 days of the result. The only possible outcome is No Standing (not counted as an attempt), never a pass.
Published processing time: Up to four weeks for the application. Results four weeks after the last day of the session (five for April). (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When a pass result appears in your account.
Why you see this Most PRA programs require it, including SIPPA per the MCC eBook. Passing it alone does not get you into a program.
Comes after:
Your degree must be “reviewed and accepted”. You do not need program approval to apply.
Four hours at a Prometric centre: 55 cases, about 110–140 questions, in English or French, in Canada and abroad.
Four attempts only, pass or fail. After a fail you cannot apply to the next consecutive session, and after three fails in a row you wait a year.
The MCC publishes no result validity. Programs set their own window.
SIPPA requires a TDM pass within the three years before your application is reviewed for an intake. Since June 2026 you apply directly to the MCC without program approval.
An old SIPPA updates page (2023) mentioned a two-pass limit, repeating the MCC rule at the time. The MCC rule from September 2026 is four attempts only, pass or fail. If you have a question about your attempts, ask SIPPA.
Why you see this CaRMS’s general rule: citizen or permanent resident at the time of application, and pending applications are not accepted. Provinces differ; details follow.
There are province-specific exceptions. Read CaRMS’s citizenship summary for your province before paying.
Per CaRMS’s 2026 table, protected persons are not eligible in Saskatchewan.
The 2027 provincial criteria were not yet posted when we read the page.
How you know it is done When you know whether you are eligible for this year’s match.
Why you see this An international graduate without completed postgraduate training enters residency through the match.
Comes after:
Provincially funded IMG residency positions carry a year-for-year return-of-service agreement in a Minister-approved community. The template we read is old (2015), so confirm the current version.
Share your MCCQE and NAC results with CaRMS before file review (usually late November).
You need a Medical Identification Number for Canada (MINC). The MCC issues it, with written consent, to applicants to its exams.
In CaRMS Online: register and pay, prove citizenship (share your MCC identity validity period or upload a document), upload your transcript and MSPR, request references, apply to programs, attend virtual interviews, then submit your rank order list.
Read the provincial criteria and pay attention to return-of-service requirements.
2027 dates: citizenship proof through the MCC by October 16, 2026; applications by November 26, 2026 at noon ET; match day March 2, 2027. Your degree must be completed by July 1 of the match year.
The fees page shows two tables. Confirm the fee before paying.
Fee: CAD 301.6 plus tax · Match participation fee (includes four programs) · CaRMS
Fee: CAD 66.26 plus tax · Each additional program · CaRMS
How you know it is done When you submit your rank order list.
Why you see this Twelve regulators take this application through the account; Ontario is not one of them.
Comes after:
On the SIPPA route, do not start this until the SHRA tells you to, because assessment fees are non-refundable. CPSS asks for contact by email only, and no originals unless requested.
You pay the MCC application fee ($240) plus the CPSS fee ($500 + $25 GST, $525 in total).
The application is prefilled from the documents in your account. The regulator may ask for more documents and its own fee.
A refund needs the regulator’s approval and carries a $70 administrative fee.
Why you see this For specialists trained outside Canada, the US and approved jurisdictions, in a recognized primary specialty that is substantially equivalent.
Comes after:
Apply through the Royal College eBooking platform: CV, degree, internship documents, a signed letter from the program director with training dates and rotations, and a CanMEDS competence attestation.
The degree, internship and training documents are verified through physiciansapply.
Deadline: April 30 of the year before a spring exam, or August 31 of the year before a fall exam.
No practice time is needed for exam eligibility. Fees are non-refundable; we could not read the amount on the Royal College site.
Published processing time: Assessing a complete application can take three to six months. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When you receive the ruling letter.
Why you see this CPSS requires good character, good standing and currency of practice from every applicant.
Comes after:
A certificate of professional conduct from every regulator you were registered with (such as the Sudan Medical Council), dated within 60 days of your application.
For direct entry to practice: independent practice within the last three years and at least five months in the last five years, as most responsible physician. Observerships and volunteer work without responsibility do not count.
CPSS may ask you to attend in person to confirm your identity.
How you know it is done When the documents are ready.
Why you see this SIPPA is the route for a family physician from a country the CFPC does not recognize, such as Sudan. The program takes no direct applications.
Comes after:
At least 12 months of family-medicine training including general surgery, paediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology and psychiatry. If under 24 months: 156 weeks of in-person independent practice as most responsible physician.
Currency: 26 weeks of full-time family medicine in the last three years (from June 1, 2026), counted from each intake’s cut-off. Virtual-only practice and unlicensed clinical-assistant work in Canada do not count.
An MCCQE pass, a NAC pass or an earlier MCCQE2 pass, language proof, and your degree, transcripts and family training sent for or passed verification and shared with CPSS.
The last published cut-off was September 25, 2026 (for the January 2027 intake). Intake dates after January 2027 were not published when we read the page.
Before the field assessment: a full driver’s licence and a Heart & Stroke BLS certificate.
How you know it is done When you know you meet the requirements.
Why you see this The agency reviews the form and, if approved, tells you to apply to CPSS.
Comes after:
Email the form to info@saskhealthrecruitment.ca and upload your CV to your Health Careers Saskatchewan profile.
Answer “YES” only for items you have completed and passed. A false answer makes CPSS reject your application, may lead to discipline later, and sends you back to the start of the queue.
Requirements must stay current until you are selected and start the assessment.
How you know it is done When the agency approves and tells you to apply to CPSS.
Why you see this The ruling decides whether you are eligible for the educational licence needed to take part in SIPPA if selected.
Comes after:
The preliminary ruling expires after one year, or when any pre-screen requirement expires, whichever comes first.
When you receive the ruling, record it here.
Fee: CAD 500 plus tax · CPSS Application for Medical Registration · CPSS
Published processing time: CPSS said SIPPA reviews take about two weeks from submission (updated monthly). CPSS also states (under the fair registration law): a registration decision within 20 business days of complete information, and an assessment decision within 50 days. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When you receive the ruling.
Why you see this The health authority usually selects two to three months before each intake. CPSS has no role in selection. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee selection.
Comes after:
Usually three intakes a year (spring, summer, fall). The health authority contacts those selected for interview.
Why you see this If you passed the Royal College exam through PER: a provisional licence with supervision until certification. If not eligible for its exams: a pre-licensure assessment with a job offer from a sponsor.
Comes after:
PER (category 2.9): you must obtain Royal College certification within its eligibility period, or the licence is revoked.
Pre-licensure assessment (category 2.7): at least three years of residency in the specialty, specialty certification if available in your country, and a full licence there. You need an offer from a hiring agency, which sends the assessment proposal to the Registrar.
The assessment is at least 12 weeks (55 days of observed practice), without most-responsible role or billing, on an educational licence. Then a year of supervision and a summative assessment.
If an assessment cannot be arranged, CPSS says the only option is PER.
Why you see this The Royal College requirement for certification through PER.
Comes after:
Two full-time years in one location, with at least half your practice in the specialty, then an assessment with multisource feedback. The provisional licence for this practice comes from CPSS.
How you know it is done When you receive Royal College certification.
Why you see this You hold an educational licence and are assessed at the level of a Canadian-trained family physician entering practice.
Comes after:
A three-year return-of-service agreement in a rural community assigned by the health authority, and a SIPPA agreement for assessment and supervision.
Orientation: about three weeks online and one week in person. It is not a review of core family-medicine knowledge.
The assessment is in two or three communities other than your service community. Health Careers Saskatchewan says 12 weeks; the University of Saskatchewan says up to 20 weeks.
Accommodation and a stipend are provided during orientation and the assessment.
Published processing time: Results about two weeks after the assessment. (the body’s time, not your own time to complete)
How you know it is done When you complete the assessment.
Why you see this You practise with a supervisor at all times. SIPPA has delivered supervision for its graduates since 2023, overseen by CPSS.
Comes after:
Before practising: CMPA membership or insurance registered in Saskatchewan of at least $10 million. Without proof within 15 days of notice, the licence is suspended.
If your supervisor stops, you must find another approved supervisor or risk suspension. The licence is revoked automatically if supervision or the summative assessment is not completed.
Supervisor fees: CPSS encourages $160 an hour. It does not say whether SIPPA graduates pay them.
Why you see this It is part of the common standard for a full licence.
Comes after:
Requirements: an acceptable school, an MCCQE pass, a verified degree and nothing owing to the MCC.
If you applied for the MCCQE after January 26, 2026, it is issued automatically at no cost. If earlier, apply under Other Service Requests and pay $50.
It is now a digital number; paper certificates are not issued automatically.
How you know it is done When an LMCC number is issued.
Why you see this After a successful supervised year, the summative assessment leads to a regular licence. With CCFP or Royal College certification, you may get the regular licence without the supervision and assessment.
Comes after:
You arrange and pay for the assessment, with CPSS approval: at least a week of observed practice, possibly with exams and feedback from colleagues and patients.
Renew every year (the cycle runs December 1 to November 30). Late after November 1: $300.
Why you see this CPSS names Australia, Ireland and the UK. US-trained physicians follow other categories in Saskatchewan.
Comes after:
You must be eligible for CCFP without examination, meet the general requirements, and have passed the MCCQE, accepted US exams or other proof acceptable to Council.
If you do not obtain CCFP within a year of the provisional licence, CPSS revokes it automatically.
How you know it is done When you hold CCFP and a regular licence.
Why you see this You need a Royal College ruling that you may challenge its exam in your specialty.
Comes after:
You choose one pathway, and the choice is final: the Royal College exam within its eligibility period with supervision, or a year of supervision in Saskatchewan and an assessment.
How you know it is done When you hold a regular licence.
Family medicine (SIPPA) and specialties (Royal College routes, or a pre-licensure assessment with a job).
Regular licence: covered
Provisional licence (with restrictions and supervision): covered
Educational licence (SIPPA or residency): covered
Clinical assistant (limited roles): not covered · Not covered: recruited by the health authority or Cancer Agency, and not a path to a full regular licence.
Ministerial licence: not covered · Not covered: the employer contacts CPSS in advance.
CPSS pages set no immigration-status rule. The IMG Support Program and the credential recognition grant (up to $6,000 for SIPPA eligibility costs) are for people living in Saskatchewan.
CPSS pages do not name a criminal record check for new applicants. Annual renewal asks about charges and convictions in the past two years.
