- Complete form RC66 and form RC66SCH.
- New to Canada and applying for the first time? Attach proof of birth for the children and your status documents. School or club letters are only asked for when you apply for a period that began more than 11 months ago.
- Mail both forms to the tax centre address printed in form RC66 itself, to the CRA only.
- Then file a tax return every year, both spouses, so payments continue.
Depending on your status:
- Permanent resident: Permanent residents and citizens qualify if they meet the other conditions.
- Refugee or asylum claimant: Protected persons qualify. A person with a Refugee Protection Claimant Document is not eligible until their status changes.
- Work or study permit: Temporary residents qualify only after living in Canada for the previous 18 months, with a valid permit in the 19th month.
Note: eligibility depends on status — choose your situation above to see details.
