How do you study for the citizenship test?

Study from the official guide Discover Canada, the only official study guide for the test. Read it slowly, try the official practice questions and prepare your computer and webcam before the date.

  1. Get the official guide Discover Canada from the IRCC site. It is online and in PDF, and there is an audio version you can listen to on the way or at work.
  2. Read the whole guide once without memorising, to see the big picture. Then spread the topics over days: one for history, one for government and laws, one for symbols and geography.
  3. Write the key points on a small sheet: dates, provinces and their capitals, and who does what in government. Review the sheet for 10 minutes every day.
  4. Try the official practice questions after each part. If you get one wrong, go back to the guide and see why; a mistake here is useful.
  5. Before the date, answer 20 questions in 45 minutes without opening the guide and see if you get 15 or more right. Prepare the computer, webcam and internet the day before.

Caution: Rely on IRCC’s official guide and practice questions, and treat unofficial sites or videos with caution.
