What to do, step by step

1. Open CRA’s registration page.
2. Verify instantly with photo ID on your phone, or wait for a security code by mail (about 10 business days).
3. Set up multi-factor authentication.
4. Add direct deposit and update your address.

Note: you generally need a return filed in the last 2 years. In Alberta and B.C. you can register through a provincial partner even without filing. Otherwise register after your first return.
